The World Tag Team Championship was born in Tokyo on 8/25/2016 during Lion's Road Pro-Wrestling's PRIDE OF LIONS Tag Team Tournament. This would be the last time the titles were defended in Japan for over 18 months, as the belt was considered the property of Lion's Road.
A championship of genuine world stature, it returned to Japan when GRIM and Tokyo Zombie defeated Matt Pulver and James Edwards. When the titles came back, MAX-J returned the design of the belt to the original when it had been last contested in Japan. The championship still bears gold plates on the side with the Lion's Road logo to acknowledge the history that the rival company has played in the title.
