Batting his foot against padding with one of his TO Top Team sparring partners helping him out, “The Mighty Python” Sen Oka finishes throwing a round of kicks. After wiping the sweat from his brow, Oka pats his partner - Keisuke Issei - on the shoulder.
“Let's take a break, shall we?” Oka says.
“You've been going at this for a while, Sen,” says Issei. “You should.”
After taking a swig of his bottled water, Oka finally rests on the bench. Issei had also been a part of TO Top Team for about two years now and was often Oka's regular partner and part-time sounding board. Despite the two being close in age (Oka just five months older), Keisuke hadn't been doing this that long. Secretly, he was often envious of the success that Sen had in MMA despite his attitude. He wondered a lot if he got into the sport instead of going through college, if he could've gotten that far?
Now, to see Sen Oka do so well in wrestling as well? Was there anything he couldn't do, he wondered?
“You had a lot of fire in this workout, Sen,” says Keisuke. “I imagine that Max-J Junior Heavyweight Title's on your mind, is it not?”
Oka nods.
“That title is as good as mine, Keisuke. I've already beaten that masked child once with a knee to his skull. What I'm infuriated about is after I defeat him… they have me paired with that man from Lion's Road - David Troy - in some nonsense called chessboxing? I had to look up this garbage and it's indeed a real thing! I just needed to blow off stress.”
A derisive snort.
“I wanted to fight Troy with traditional or even Sport Form Rules… ugh! It's award-winning ideas like chessboxing that don't make it a shock that this circus called Max-J is folding.”
Oka lets out a heavy sigh. As he goes back to sipping his water, Issei finally speaks up.
“I'm sorry, Sen,” says Keisuke.
“About what?”
“Max-Japan. About them closing their doors so soon after your recent successes there…”
Oka turns to look at Issei…
And laughs.
Issei raises his eyebrows, confused.
“What's so funny, Sen?”
Oka scoffs.
“At the end of the day, It's just a wrestling promotion, Keisuke. I've wrestled across several promotions in the last few years in front of 50 backwater idiots to over 5,000-plus with people thinking they can close this mouth. And here I still stand. Promotions will rise and promotions will fall.”
He shrugs.
“Besides, Keisuke, I don't need anyone's pity. Whether it's MMA or wrestling, I get people talking. I make things happen. Look... ”
He reaches into his bag on the bench and pulls out a contract.
“That organization that did business with Max-J in the States… Lion's Road… I wasn't going to say anything, but they sent me this earlier today. That's a full-time contract. Just further proof… I'm somebody. And I don't need anybody's approval to know otherwise.”
Oka storms off, leaving Issei speechless.

“David Troy…”
Cue Sen Oka, interview backdrop behind him.
“I REFUSE to acknowledge a “chessboxing” match beyond this statement… I'm not here to play games… I’m here to win titles and make money. To THAT end…”
Pause.
“Lynx.”
Derisive laughter.
“You and that Junior Heavyweight Title were in the right place in your little promotional material for our fight. A graveyard is EXACTLY where a masked coward like you and that tarnished championship belong.
This organization will crumble before I would've had the chance to steer the division right. But I still have one chance to win that title, go down in history as its final champion and end its lineage with something you know nothing about.”
A cold stare.
“Credibility.”
He beats his chest.
“I don't hide behind a cartoonish mask in shame. I WANT people to know this face because THIS face is associated with success… as if my Sword of Lite GP wasn’t proof enough.
You desperately look for answers to the riddle that is me in hopes you can keep that title one last time. But there isn't an answer… at least, not one that you'll like, Lynx.”
Grin.
“You ask this question to yourself: can I beat Sen Oka and be MAX-J's final Junior Heavyweight Champ?
The difference between us is that with me, there is no question... I KNOW I can beat YOU.”
Fade.
