It’s good to be back to one of the few places I actually called Home. In a small little Dojo in the outer limits of Tokyo, Japan I lay in the center of a wrestling ring that was once the NJFC Dojo. This place use to be busy only a year ago with a mix of students and teachers.
A blind person could had walked into this room and all of their senses would had been affected in one way or another. The smell of sweat would fill the air as the temperatures inside, especially during the summer, would get extremely humid. The sounds of people being stretched or being slammed onto the mat would ring throughout the room. As you walked into the Dojo barefooted and felt along the walls, you’d feel the random dents embedded onto the floor and walls where past and presents students literally left their mark. And if that blind person could see, they’d see a room full of wide eyed students wanting to make it big in the professional wrestling world.
I was the first Gaijin to enter those doors and commit to be a student here..... and I was first Gaijin to graduate, much to the displeasure of the teachers. And it was a great honor to graduate in NJFC because NJFC was a big deal.
But now....now it means nothing.
The smell of sweat is gone. The sound of people taking bumps is gone. You place your hands on anything in here and all you’ll collect will be dust. The Dojo is empty and all I can do is lay down in the center of its ring and look up at the ceiling and wonder to myself.....what now.
Kamikaze Pro was my next Japanese Home.....but they’ve gone on hiatus and I can’t help but feel they’re never coming back.
UJPW was supposed to be the next big thing....but day of the show the doors never opened.
Now it’s Maximum Japan.... I’ve always heard good things about the place, but then I look at where they put me on this upcoming card, and I can’t feel like they haven’t heard good things about me.
Two matches. Two throw away multi person tag matches with a bunch of people I barely know. I was told I was going to help elevate their Junior Heavyweight Division. Being the current CWC Junior Heavyweight Champion, I’d get the division the recognition it so desperately needs. But instead of going off against the current champ....I have to watch from the sidelines as Metal Hero faces James Edwards.
I guess I have to earn my way to the top here.
All my accomplishments....keep them at home.
All the titles I’ve collected over my short time in the industry....nothing but drink coasters.
Already a star in Japan.....you’re still just a Blue Eyed Gaijin.
That’s fine.
I’m only 22. I still have plenty to prove.
But Maximum Japan will eventually......Cry Havoc.
