Hammerstein sits backstage with his manager, Reese Kennedy. Both men are drenched in sweat. Kennedy has his coat off, his tie loosened, and the top two buttons of his shirt unbuttoned and is drinking from a one litre bottle of water. Hammerstein has a towel around his neck and is drinking from his second cold beer. A reporter asked Hammer how he felt after his big win.
I feel good. Hopefully, I taught ZENKI a little bit of respect. I never came here looking to be disrespectful to Japanese tradition or customs. ZENKI’s view is outdated and needs to be thrown on the trash heap of history, just like the xenophobic attitudes some of my fellow Americans hold. This sport needs to bring us together as people, not divide us.
But yeah, it felt good to beat his ass clean in the middle of the ring.
Another reporter asks Hammerstein if he thinks he can repeat the upset victory tonight against Tokyo Zombie on Night Seven. Reese Kennedy takes exception to this.
Upset? Upset? Maybe in your mind or the minds of the Zealots, but this man right here is a multi-time World Champion. Four World's Titles on three continents. He's beaten some of the biggest names in this sport, including ZENKI. So, to call this an upset, sir, is not only ridiculous, but downright insulting to my client. And furthermore….
Hammerstein puts his hand up, causing Kennedy to pause.
It's okay, Reese. They can call it an upset if they want. You can call it whatever you want, but in the end, you gotta call it what it is….a win.
And hell yeah, I plan on repeatin’ it against Tokyo Zombie. He is a stellar talent, absolutely stellar. And he has momentum. But so do I. And my momentum is sure as hell gonna hit him harder than his will hit me.
I'm gonna win this damn J1 Summit, not as a Gaijin, or an invader, but as a wrestler.
