The opening night of ATTACK OF THE CASTLE! ended with a showdown between over a dozen superstars and has given us a lot to think about when the tour picks up.
- Shinjiro Nakama is still bragging about the hit he put on Masanori Kawada that put the Everlasting Hero in a hospital for the night. Kawada was diagnosed with a bruised sternum and also cracked a rib. However, he has been cleared for the remainder of the tour as long as he keeps the injury covered. He will be wearing a protective brace throughout the remainder of the tour and promised to fight through the pain with a warrior’s heart.
- Mike Musket and Jun Vegas, teaming together as ACES WILD! and also both belonging to the MAXIMUM Defense Force (MAX 軍隊), apparently organized a training exercise with Daichi Kusumoto and METAL HERO to ensure that MAX-J wins the MAX vs. LION’S ROAD Series. Musket claimed he reached out to Shinjiro Nakama but didn’t hear back. When asked how he tried to contact him, he said matter-of-factly that he sent up smoke signals from Mt. Sarakura believing that “Mountain” Shinjiro would no doubt receive his invite.
- Meanwhile, the Lion’s Road team seems racked with internal discord. Alexander Irvine and AJ Knight were apparently at each other’s throats and needed to be separated by Justin Seville and David Troy after the conclusion of last night’s show, but this only seemed to enrage both men even further. Apparently, Irvine threatened to curb-stomp Troy if he lost the King of Lions title to Billy Danielson on 10/13, forcing Knight and Seville to then have to separate those two apart. Rafa Whatley and Matt Pulver are scheduled to fly into Japan over the next couple of days to join the team. Hopefully, they’ll be a stabilizing force for what has so far been a contentious alliance!
- After picking up the fall in the 8-man tag, Daichi Kusumoto has thrown his name in the ring of possible Jr. Heavyweight title contenders after Lynx defends his championship against Jack Tillman on 10/2. He has apparently taken up the habit of running wind-sprints each morning to keep his weight below the 220lb limit and has been training with Matt Pulver, himself a former MAX Jr. Heavyweight Champion.
- Finally, there’s still quite a bit of mystery who will challenge ZENKI for the MAX Heavyweight title on 10/14. Rumor has it that Tokyo Zombie has decided to retain his title shot for a future date, wanting to focus on defending the Tag Team Championship. So, who will it be? There are apparently several names the competition committee has internally floated, but many believe that Chairman Murakami, who heads the committee, wants to be impressed by the fighting spirit of a fighter during the tour.
