In front of the Max Japan banner we see AJ Knight, he looks frustrated.
“1-3.”
He lets the words hang in the air, the meaning is clear.
“We flew overseas with the goal of representing Lion’s Road. To show the world what Lion’s Road is all about…
And so far only yours truly and Rafa Whatley have been pulling our weight.”
AJ runs his hands through his hair.
“See I came to Japan over a month ago, I wanted to train, I wanted to get better, I wanted to prepare myself to reclaim the World’s Heavyweight Championship. The thing is, I have made some progress, and I’ve gotten my head back together. Training with Fujiyama sensei has been enlightening. I’ve learned a hell of a lot, but somehow it’s not been clicking. He’s telling me it’ll come in time, but…”
AJ looks up at the camera his frustration more evident.
“I’m not sure how much time I have to wait for it to come. See, when I left for Japan I did it thinking that Lion’s Road would be fine while I got my head together. I thought I was leaving it in good hands. Broken down as I was mentally, I realized that Pulver was right: I wasn’t the kind of champion Lion’s Road needed me to be. So while I tried to find myself I was comfortable, I found myself content that with Matt Pulver at the helm, that he could carry the case, he could represent Lion’s Road in my absence.”
AJ starts getting aggravated.
“But of course, he had to simultaneously go and prove me right, and wrong! Before our championship fight I told Matt Pulver that he wasn’t ready to be the champion. That he wasn’t the man to represent Lion’s Road. Then he beat me, and I thought maybe I had him all wrong. Then he goes and loses the belt to David Troy of all people!”
AJ shakes his head.
“Now he tries to go and play peacemaker. Still trying to lead Lion’s Road onward in spite of being proven unable to do so effectively. I’ve sat here and watched Lion’s Road’s finest, over and over again fail and fall flat on their face. The WALL doing what they do best and fucking up everything. While David Troy can’t keep his head out of his ass long enough to actually represent the company he’s trying to be the face of!”
AJ breathes deeply, he again faces the camera more calmly.
“But none of that changes the fact that Matt Pulver was right about me. I wasn’t ready to lead Lion’s Road. I was a fine champion, and I raised the profile of the World’s title. I got people talking, but it takes more than that to lead a company. And now we’re down 1-3…”
AJ nods.
“I’ve got to be that guy. I have to lead the way now!”
The fire returns to AJ’s eyes for the first time since losing the title.
“Right now we’re behind the 8 ball! We’re in the hole and I have to get us out of there! To do that I have to take on one of Max Japan’s best, Tokyo Zombie! Unlike the company he keeps I actually respect him. The J1 Summit Winner Vs. The Laurentide Cup winner. It’s a dream fight, and last time I was here he beat me. A true challenge to be sure. But I have to be the one to lead the charge!”
A look of solemn determination spreads across his face.
“Zombie, I’ll admit it you’re the exact kind of opponent I need right now. If I want to be the man I’m trying to be I don’t need anybody pitching me any softballs. You think of yourself as a teacher. As much as I’ve improved I know my game still has holes in it. Point them out to me, so I can overcome them! Because on this night? I will be the leader I need to be! A strong man must lead the way! And this is where it all turns around! Come hell or high water, I’m going to rally Lion’s Road. The comeback starts here! And we will win!”
AJ flashes his wrist gauntlet to the camera, the emblem of Lion's Road there for the world to see.
"I'll carry this banner proudly into battle, as I stand triumphant tomorrow night, and the world will know just what Lion's Road stands for!"
