We open on Billy Danielson walking through LAX. A reporter walks up to Billy.
“Billy, how do you feel about your time in Japan so far?”
Billy pauses with a smirk on his face, as he thinks of an answer.
“For years now...
I’ve watched Lion’s Road. I used listen to Cutlass talk about his title like it was the love of his life. He said he could hear what she wants, and that she confided in him, and I used to think that it was just powerful imagery. Until about five months ago.”
The reporters look at Billy with a confused look.
“Five months ago, I embarrassed AJ Knight, as I served him his very first loss as champion. That’s when I first heard her. A week later, I beat Bam Markham, officially defeating all of the singles champions Lion’s Road has to offer, and I heard her again.
She said something I’d never forget...
‘Save me’.”
Billy looks at the reporter, and then looks down with a laugh, as if understanding how crazy he sounded.
“Since December, the King of the Lion’s championship has been used and abused by guys who thought they were the best in the company, just to get dropped a couple of months later. She’s been tossed around like a rousing game of hot-potato in a kindergarten classroom. She has been treated like a child’s plaything, and she doesn’t want that anymore.
That’s why she calls out to me. When she saw the way I could’ve taken over Lion’s Road in the matter of days, she knew.
She knew that I was the only one that can save her, and that’s why I am here.”
“So what does that have to do with your tour in Japan.”
He pauses with a cool, arrogant smirk on his face.
“You see, David hears her call to me too.
We just watched as David Troy slowly climbed his way to the top. It was like areal life “The Engine that Could”. He spun his wheels and huffed and puffed his steam engine soul out, until he got to the top of that metaphorical mountain. He finally proved that after 21 years of chasing the big one, that David Troy could do it! He finally won got that story book ending that has eluded him for so long, yet he’s already hearing her call to someone else, and He wants to know why.”
The reporter still looks confused, as Danielson continues.
"You see, the KOL has already seen this story before. In fact, we all have multiple times. Whether it was Irvine, Edwards, Knight, or Pulver. Each of them were Little Engines that could, just like David. They all had that “finally winning their big one” moment. I know he said he wanted to be different than those guys, because he’s King David and yadda-yadda, but if anything, he is the poster child for these bullshit storybook champions.”
Billy points at the camera, as if pointing directly at David, blaming him for all of this.
“He’s probably the biggest storybook moment in all of Lion’s Road History, and that’s why the King of the Lion’s championship calls out to me. She doesn’t want to just feel good anymore, she wants to feel prestigious. She wants the polar opposite of storybook, and that’s what I am. I’m the reality check this company so desperately needs. I’m the guy, that epitomizes greatness in professional wrestling.
What took David 20 years to earn, took me 20 months the first time, and in Fukuoka, it will only take me 20 minutes.”
Billy scoffs, as the reporter starts to piece it all together.
“I know this all sounds like arrogance, but he knows as well as I do, that everything I say is true. That’s why he low-blowed me, and why he yells at me from across arenas. He’s making this to be more than it is, because he doesn’t want to be the 20 year chase that was ended by an outsider in another company. He wants to go down in a blaze of glory, not the pathetic whimper it will be when I win my title. That’s all it is.”
The reporter looks at Billy
“So Troy isn’t getting to you at all.”
Billy laughs
“Not in the slightest. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go buy another house.”
Danielson waves off the reporter, but more reporters notice him and swarm him. Billy slips away, as the scene closes.
