Deep in Jorogumo’s temple, the dark wizard GRIM meditates in the darkness. His mind is like a whirlpool with one thought continuously spinning through his head, the Storm is coming. He fought to keep the panic down inside of him. Why was he even feeling this way? The Storm was no one, a broken thing put back together too many times. GRIM himself had been responsible for more than a few of those crack himself. So why should he fear him? The Storm would be foolish to enter these chambers. The home of the Danjon no Unmei, the home of Jorogumo!
Frustration got the better of him and GRIM rose to his feet. He exited his darkened chamber, shielding his eyes from the light of the candles in the hall. GRIM didn’t have time for this foolishness. He had a battle to prepare for and he could not let his opponent, Jun Vegas, see any weakness.
The very thought of facing Vegas brought a smile to GRIM’s face. The pretentious fool had allowed himself to be blinded by the bright lights and glamour of the Western world and it had brought the dark wizard a great deal of pleasure to bring him down a few notches by denying him the opportunity to become one half of the Lions Road World Tag Team Champions. No doubt that he would be out to redeem himself and gain some revenge for the poison mist that GRIM had spewed in his partner, Mike Musket’s face.
Remembering Musket’s crying out as the mist burned his eyes and scorched his skin brought an evil smile to GRIM’s face. As did the replays he watched later of Jun Vegas’ face, dejected at the loss he had suffered at the hands of GRIM and his partner, Tokyo Zombie. GRIM could almost taste his disappointment even now. It was a succulent flavor he very much wanted to feast upon again and how much sweeter would be once he defeated him again.
“Soon Jorogumo’s venom will flow through his veins, much like his partner, Mike Musket’s,” he cackled to himself as he wandered through the halls of the temple.
His followers turned and watched him walk by, with mixed feelings of joy and trepidation. It was good to see him once again to be amongst them, but the look in and his eyes and the smile upon his face was enough to make their blood go cold. There was a saying amongst the worshippers of Jorogumo, “When the Lady’s consort smiles like a viper, someone is going to get bit.”
GRIM entered the temple’s sanctuary and set his eyes upon two figures watching the others from the shadows: his mad dog, Jin Hirai, and The Great Goryō, the water devil who had terrorized the squared circle for many years. He snapped his fingers and motioned for them to follow. The two of them fell into step behind him and soon after, GRIMMY Winner joined their numbers.
The four of them made their their way down into the very catacombs of the temple itself, to the outskirts of Jorogumo’s lair itself. This was a place that only the most favored of the Spider Lady’s followers would dare venture, for to come down here was to risk never being seen again. The idea of bringing Jun Vegas down here was a delightful thought to the dark wizard, he would certainly be a tasty morsel for Jorogumo to feast upon.
Once they had reached their destination, a place that no one but the Spider Lady herself would bother them, GRIM began to lay down his plot to bring the might Jun Vegas to his knees. Jin Hirai nodded his head at his master’s plan, while Goryō openly laughed in cruel delight at what GRIM presented to him. Out of the corner of his eye he saw GRIMMY Winner shiver and realized that what he suggested went further than Winner was comfortable with. This might be an issue to keep an eye on, but for now his mind was on Jun Vegas.
From the shadows he felt his Lady’s presence and the sense of approval of his plan coming from her strengthened his resolve ten fold.
He knew what he must. He needed to make an example of Jun Vegas for everyone to bare witness to; for the Storm to witness and be filled with dread.
He raised his hands and proclaimed, “It’s time to turn off the lights in Vegas, my friends.”
