Hello sports fans,
I’m writing this update while taking the train to Ōsaka. We’re just a little under a week before THREE KINGDOMS gets underway, but I’d like to be on the ground to get the scoop early this tour. After last tour’s finale was chock full of conclusions, it’s hard to say what lurks around the corner.
After the Tiger’s Festival, I was invited to listen in on a conference call involving GM Masaaki Sano where I learned some interesting and newsworthy nuggets:
- Competition Committee Chairman Murakami spoke about his decision to pair “Mountain” Shinjiro Nakama with Frank Dylan James to challenge Demon Brigade’s GRIM and Tokyo Zombie in their V4 defense of the World Tag Team Championship. He said that he wanted to present the Demon Brigade with a “literally giant” test, so FDJ was a given. Nakama was determined after the Tiger’s Festival, as his tag team intellect earlier that night impressed the chairman.
- The two #1 contenders for the singles titles in MAX-J, Jun Vegas for the Heavyweight and Daichi Kusumoto for the Jr. Heavyweight, were spotted training together with Mike Musket earlier this morning in a dusty gym on the outskirts of Yokohama. Since the three men are all members of the MAX Defense Force, it is a good sign that their team is starting to gel. With the recent success of ACES WILD! at Tiger’s Festival on 10/24, is it possible that on this tour we could see the company’s regular army hold all of the gold.
- Lastly, GM Sano has noted that he is pleased that members of the roster such as Go Gensai and Frank Dylan James have taken MAX Dojo students under their wing. He said that he is considering the implementation of a more official status of sponsorship for the Dojo fighters. It is unclear what kinds of benefits and responsibilities this system will entail.
More news to follow,
