MJPW presents...
THREE KINGDOMS
Day 1 ~ THRONE OF THE JR. HEAVYWEIGHT REALM
11/3/2018
Minato Civic Center, Ōsaka, Japan
A crowd of 3,500 filled the Minato Civic Center in downtown Ōsaka. Attendance reached 99% in part due to a thunderstorm that had settled over the city, but also due to a junior heavyweight championship match on the docket with Lynx going for his V2 defense against Daichi Kusumoto.
The fans were into it from the get-go as GM Masaak Sano addressed them and thanked them for showing up. He reported that nearly three-quarters of fans had purchased the special bundled package of tickets for all three shows so he knew that it would be a jam-packed three nights ahead...
Kota X Shoju vs. Sheik Spectre
When Kota last entered the ring, it was the Dojo’s top student, Umetaro Sakamoto, who was able to take him out. Well, it seems that the Dojo is 2-0 versus Shoju, as Sheik Spectre – the former boxer turned deathmatch wrestler – would use his jab, his aerial attacks, and eventually his samoan neckbeaker known as the Fertile Crescent to pick up the win in an impressive MAX debut.
Joseph White and Earth Warrior vs. Mushigahara and Shigeru Toyama
The Dojo students seem to have accumulated quite a bit of experience in their brief foray competing alongside the regular roster. Stunning the fans once again, this time it was Shigeru Toyama who used his Starboy Special II on Joseph White to pick up victory in tag team action and upsetting the debut of the “Gold Standard Killer”.
Toyama after the match proclaimed that he was the strongest junior heavyweight fighter in the company and demanded a shot against the next MAX Jr. Heavyweight Champion! It remains to be seen whether GM Sano will honor this request, but stranger things have happened…
Shinjiro Nakama and Umetaro Sakamoto vs. Go Gensai and Hiro Minamoto
The Dojo would attempt to go 3-0 on the night picking up falls, with Umetaro Sakamoto taking it to Gensai and Minamoto, having been successful against the duo during the Enatsu Special Tag Tournament on 10/14. Partnered with Shinjiro Nakama, the Mountain at one point would throw Minamoto into a corner and demand Gensai face him!
Fans in the arena held their collective breaths as these two stars went at it. Nakama would try to keep the fight standing in the clinch while Gensai tried to wrestle him to the ground. Well, the fight would go to the ground, but only because of a Nakama belly-to-belly suplex to Gensai! The Pale General would struggle against the mass of the Mountain.
But in the end, a fatigued Nakama tagged in Sakamoto who tried to tie up Gensai and used a cobra twist for a 1-2-2.5 count. Gensai would get up quickly to his feet, kick Sakamoto in the stomach, and hit his patented Gensai style Piledriver to pick up the 1-2-3!
Gensai and Minamoto declared after the match that they had satisfied only a fraction of their vengeance from the Enatsu Special Tag Tournament and vowed to come after all of the other MAX-J fighters.
Chikashi Enatsu makes an announcement…
Strutting out to the ring, the owner of MAX-J took the stage. He spoke for a few minutes about the much publicized feud with General Manager Masaaki Sano, stating there would soon come a resolution and told fans not to worry about the health of the company. He then announced that on 11/12 he would be throwing a birthday jamboree in Osaka and promised that the main event would have championship implications! With the fans in suspense and mystery, he smirked and departed the ring…
MAX Defense Force vs. DEMON BRIGADE:
Mike Musket, Jun Vegas, and Frank Dylan James vs. ZENKI, GRIM, and Tokyo Zombie
Mike Musket, Jun Vegas, and Frank Dylan James vs. ZENKI, GRIM, and Tokyo Zombie
Before the match in a pre-fight interview, ZENKI scoffed that the Demon Brigade should not have to compete against the “Hillbilly All-Star Team” due to the foul odor that would melt the ring. Well, his protests fell on deaf ears and for good reason. This was a match with all sorts of implications for the future and just damn entertaining.
Mike Musket and ZENKI, rivals since the 2017 J1 SUMMIT, got it started off in a grappling session which showcased Musket’s brawn against ZENKI’s brain. Attempts to corner the MAX Heavyweight Champion would not come to pass and Musket would tag in Vegas to the delight of the crowd! ZENKI would survey the scene and tag in Zombie, who would go to work on Vegas, targeting his right knee with kicks and even working in a few dragon screws.
Vegas would eventually shake off the fearsome Buddhist and reach out to clasp the hand of FDJ! The mighty mammoth would lumber into the ring and drop Zombie with a palm strike to the face! GRIM would enter and also get knocked down! ZENKI would start, but think better of it and allow his team to regroup on the outside in a trios huddle where the three discussed strategy.
Zombie would get it going, getting into a low crouch where he avoided FDJ’s meaty paws and kept at it to snatch up a leg. He would succeed and then tackle him into the Demon Brigade corner where the three men would rough up FDJ with kicks and chops. Musket and Vegas protested, but this only distracted the referee which allowed the deadly trio to keep at FDJ!
But whether it was FDJ’s toughness or the Demon Brigade fellas ran out of steam, FDJ would summon up the energy to crack ZENKI and Zombie’s heads together like coconuts, disabling them, and would snatch GRIM by the throat with a chokeslam and put him on the mat for the 1-2-3! The MAX Defense Force team would celebrate in the ring while Jun Vegas nodded and proclaimed Demon Brigade’s championship pedigree would trickle to zero by tour’s end.
MAX Junior Heavyweight Championship:
Lynx (c) vs. Daichi Kusumoto
Lynx (c) vs. Daichi Kusumoto
The opening moments were sloppy as Kusumoto charged Lynx with headbutts, chasing the champion around the ring like a bull against a matador! The agile Lynx would slip under the bottom rope onto the apron and shoulder-strike Kusumoto through the ropes, springboard, and nail a hurricanrana to a round of applause!
Lynx would keep the match on the ground, with Kusumoto in a rear chin lock. But Kusumoto’s a battler and would eventually elbow his way out, through the champ into the ropes, and finally hit a headbutt! The stunned Lynx would then become the victim of a fisherman’s suplex hold for 1-2-2.5!
Kusumoto would follow up the suplex with a piledriver and then lock on a Dragon Sleeper! Lynx would struggle but fight out of it, standing up to his feet to travel up the ropes and backflip out of the hold with a reverse Tornado DDT! The acrobatic Lynx would then ascend up to the top rope… let’s take you to the highlights…
Lynx now stands on the top rope in the blue and white tights and though his mask does not betray any emotion, it’s obviously that he’s soaking in the moment. Kusumoto in the black tights lays on his back and doesn’t seem capable of moving.
TIM FLOSS:
Al, we’ve seen a lot of high-flying moves alongside some nice technical wrestling. And now Lynx is going for broke!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
He doesn’t need to do this, Timmy. If I were him, I’d keep this match on the ground.
But Lynx is not Albert Mordecai. He spins around and goes for a MOONSAULT PRESS…
… flying in a perfect arc…
… but Kusumoto gets the knees UP!!!!
… But Lynx lands on his feet! He snatches up Pulver’s legs into a Figure 4 and dives forward into a jackknife hold! He’s got the bridge and pin!
1…
2…
3!!!!!!!!
The bell sounds!
TIM FLOSS:
Well, Lynx has done it again, Al!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
No one has a knack for the surprise pin like him! It comes out of nowhere, Timmy, and that means that he’s always a threat!
Inside the ring, Lynx has already been presented with the MAX Jr. Heavyweight Championship and wraps it around his waist. He stands in the center of the ring with his arms outstretched to the applause of the Osaka crowd as the camera pans out and the scene fades to black.
