2018 Sword of Light Grand Prix
Day 1
11/23/2018
Shibuya Deluxe Field House, Tokyo, Japan
An eventful day in Tokyo as we kicked off the start of the 2018 Sword of Light Grand Prix in front of a sellout crowd of 5,000 fans. When it came to the wrestling, not a lot of surprises on Day 1, with the Dojo students largely falling to the active roster members. Only one of the SSPW junior fighters made it into the next round, the legendary and electrifying Thunder Mask.
However, the day was not without substantial happenings. Go Gensai secured a submission victory over Shinjiro Nakama in their tag team match. As attendants put Nakama in a walking boot outside of the ring, it was a staredown between ZENKI, Mike Musket, and Go Gensai! We know that ZENKI will be making his next defense a month from today on 12/23. Add these two name to the list of contenders that just seems to be growing!
On 11/30, the quarterfinals will get going with some primetime matchups.
- The current MAX Jr. Heavyweight Champion Lynx will battle the MMA sensation Sen Oka to open up the night. Both fighters are surprising in their own ways: Lynx with the flash pin vs. Oka with the flash submission. Who will flash first? Who will flash brightest?
- METAL HERO vs. Thunder Mask is a rematch from nearly a year ago in SSPW where HERO defeated the legendary fighter. Who will win on this day?
- Tokyo Zombie vs. Mascara del Muerte IV will pit two styles against one another: the calm, no-nonsense puroresu karate of Zombie against the world-class lucha libre. Yet we must have a winner to advance in the tournament.
- Finally, we have David Troy vs. AJ Knight. Two former World’s Heavyweight Champions in Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling will battle it out in the day’s main event in what is setting up to be an instant classic.
We hope you’ll join us again on 11/30!
