Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan
World Tag Team Championship Tournament:
Frank Dylan James and Go Gensai vs. Mike Musket and Lynx
It was a short card tonight but one jam-packed with excitement. In the opening match of the decision tournament for the World Tag Team Championship, FDJ and Go Gensai squared off against Mike Musket and Lynx.
FDJ and Musket got the action in kicked off in what was a highly anticipated matchup. FDJ did what few could do, lifted Big Ole Country over his head and drop him for a military press! In this West Virginia vs. Wyoming showdown, FDJ had the advantage early as he treated Musket like a rag doll. But it was Musket turning into a rabid hound dog that turned things around, jumping on the middle rope and onto FDJ’s back with a sleeper hold!
Fortunately for FDJ, he stumbled into his own corner and Gensai stepped up. Gensai kept the Mountain Man pinned down with low kicks to the knees and open-handed palm strikes, playing a stand-up game against the wily catch wrestler. Musket took a beating but once again fought back, hitting a backdrop driver and then tagging in Lynx!
The Junior Heavyweight Champion jumped onto the top rope and hit a springboard missile dropkick into Gensai’s chest that sent him flying himself! Lynx even had the gusto to hit a flying elbow smash on FDJ standing on the apron, knocking him! The crowd was behind Lynx, and as Gensai and FDJ argued with one another on the outside, Lynx leapt over for a suicide plancha ~ but the two men caught him and planted him on the outside of the ring with a double backdrop suplex!
Musket and FDJ would go at it again and the two would exchange in a chopfest that would bruise the men’s chests! In a strange moment as they stared one another down, both started laughing out loud… and then the elbow strikes came! FDJ would send Musket into the ropes and go for a bit boot ~ but Musket would catch it, spin him around, and hit a backdrop driver! He’d lock on a standing anklelock, but FDJ would get to the ropes to tag in Gensai!
Gensai would hit an enzuigiri against Musket and then hit the saka otoshi and pick up a 1-2-2.9 count as Mighty Fine just barely got the shoulder up! Gensai would go for an armbar but Musket would wriggle free and tag in Lynx!
Lynx and Gensai would square off back in the ring in a more even-handed duel which pitted the flash pins of Lynx – attempting inside cradles and jackknife holds to no avail – with Gensai’s brutal armbars and chokeholds – with Lynx always just managing to slip away. But the heavyweight Gensai would wear down the junior champ and hit his Gensai-style piledriver to get the pin for the 1-2-3 and advance to the finals of the tournament.
After the match, Lynx apologized to Musket and the former heavyweight champion slapped him on the back and said he’d never seen a cat fly before, so it was worth it. Lynx promised to the fans that no matter who emerged from the Sword of Lite Grand Prix that he would defend the championship to the bitter end.
World Tag Team Championship Tournament:
ZENKI and Tokyo Zombie vs. Mushigahara and AJ Knight
ZENKI and Tokyo Zombie vs. Mushigahara and AJ Knight
The match got started with a bit of an argument. Before the opening bell, ZENKI and AJ got into a scuffle that saw a lot of pushing and the referee just barely held them off. AJ demanded that he go in first, but the ref would not allow it. So it was ZENKI and Mushigahara in a junior vs. heavy showdown. The champ displayed his trademark intellect, goading Mushigahara into chasing him around the ring and expending energy ~ and then hitting an enzuigiri! ZENKI would hit repeated enzugiri and before running against the ropes and taking down Mushi with a ZANBATOOOOOOOOH to the knee!
Mushi went down in pain as Zombie was tagged into the ring and launched a flurry of kicks with his gi pants a mad flurry. The God-Beast appeared down at out, but trapped Zombie’s arms and the two engaged in a headbutt-fest! Even though Zombie is headbutting sensei, it was the much bigger Mushigahara who took care of business and threw Zombie with a double-arm suplex!
After a series of stomps and splashes, but only getting two-counts, Mushi would tag in AJ and he’d go after Zombie with his usual zeal, throwing him into the ropes and hitting a mountain bomb for a two-count! He’d throw a series of roundhouse kicks to the mid-section and then hit a diamond cutter, but only get another two-count! Then he’d set up Zombie for his roundhouse kick ~ it would connect! ~ But Zombie simply ate it and latched on the Vise of Virtue! With the head claw intact, AJ was forced down to a knee, but wouldn’t give up. Eventually, Zombie would let go and hit a toukon slap that nearly knocked him out! Zombie would get a 1-2-2.9 count!
Zombie would keep AJ prone and go for soccer kicks, but AJ would eventually catch one, get up to his feet, and topple Zombie with a captured buster! He’d then pick up Zombie and throw him into Zenki’s corner ~ and the tag was made! The fans applauded as the MAX Heavyweight champ slowly entered and the two brash fighter stood down one another. There was a brief pause for a moment, and then…
… it was hell on earth! Zenki and AJ were exchanging closed fist punches, much to the chagrin of the referee, who could not disqualify both men! So the match would continue with AJ eventually Irish whipping Zenki into a turnbuckle and hitting a superkick to the back of his head! He’d go for the cover and get a 1-2-2.999 count! AJ would smack the mat and go for the Knightfall DDT ~ he’d hit it! The fans were apoplectic as he went for the cover! 1… 2… save made, Patrick Roy ~ err, Tokyo Zombie ~ but nevertheless, the match would continue!
AJ would lock on a Dragon sleeper… but Zenki would use his lower body strength to flip up and hit an Asai DDT to turn the match around and get Zombie tagged into the ring! Zombie would come flying in with the shining axe kick ~ Rising Zombie Moon ~ and it would connect! He’d hook the leg and get the 3-count ~ WAIT ~ AJ would have a foot on the ropes! Zombie would get him up and go for his Front Russian leg sweep ~ the Falling Tokyo Sun ~ but AJ would elbow out of it! He’d run against the ropes ~ Zombie would counter with a clothesline ~ swing and a miss ~ AJ would spin and around… hammerlock… front face lock… and hit the Knightfall DDT! He’d hook the leg for the 1… 2… 3! The advancement of the unlikely tag team of Mushigahara and AJ Knight would advance to the finals!
Sword of Lite Grand Prix – Semfinals:
Sen Oka vs. METAL Hero
Sen Oka vs. METAL Hero
Sen oka and METAL HERO started off our night of semi final bouts and the fans where not disappointed. Both men had their respective fans on their feet. The two groups couldn't be more different that the two men that did battle in the ring. The MMA fans looked like long term members of the yakuza and METAL Hero fans looked like the most brilliant people in cosplay as every single one of them looked like a Space Time War Cyborg who was built for only one thing, to wrestle.
Sen Oka couldn't have looked more surprised, or at home, with a competitor like METAL. The MMA vs Shoot Wrestling styles could not have blended better for both men to dazzle not only the fans but each other. Each physical offense from one man was greeted in kind by the other. Every punch transformed into a kick and every takedown into a transitional hold. Neither man believing in the theatrics just brought violence up to a new level.
TIME FLOSS:
MY GAWD!
Fans were on their feet as METAL's leg smashed into the head of Oka, spinning him to the side and falling to a knee. Oka's stomach heaved as he gasped for air but the cyborg assassin was merciless as he immediately pressed on the attack with a skipping side kick the pushed Oka into the ropes only to be whiplashed into the mat where METAL immediately and literally mounted an offensive as he took the top mount and started raining down punches.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Sen Oka has not made any friends since arriving here. Even with his fame in the MMA scene and his victory over Lynx in the first round of this tournament he has been having trouble connecting to the wrestling fans here.
TIM FLOSS:
Of course they don't like him Al, he besmirched the art of pro wrestling.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
If there is one thing you don't do in Japan, its fate on Professional Wrestling. These fans live it just as much as the wrestlers.
Sen Oka managed to keep his arms up to resist the onslaught that was being rained down upon him, but with all the attention being drawn to his head he had managed to reposition his legs and hips, and with METAL leaning in to go for a knock out punch Oka used the moment to transition METAL off of him and roll to where he was in the dominate position, capturing the LEG OF METAL IN A KNEEBAR!
ALBERT MORDECIA:
There are few men that can transition as smoothly Oka.
METAL fans in the crowd began hammering into the containers on their head as to give power to the great warrior known as METAL Hero. But he was trapped in there like a bear in a trap, Sen Oka had a look of sheer determinism in his eyes. The look within them seems as if he was going to attempt to just dislocate the knee. But METAL slipped his leg from the hold.
BUT SEN SNATCHES THE ANKLE!
Oka bends the ankle so far back that fans close to the ring look upon the scene uncomfortably. METAL begins beating his helmet in to the man and the slams his fists in front of what one would think was his face.
The ref asks if he wants to quit...
METAL DENIES.
Sen Oka deepens his grapes and arches his back.
The ref asks again.
METAL pushes the ref away from him...
Rolling just enough to grab the bottom ropes!
Sen Oka is forced to let go of the hold and rolls to his feet as METAL clutches his leg. Oka makes his way towards his opponent, but has his legs swept from under him with a scissor movement that allows METAL to get to his feet. As Sen's face bounces off of the mat METAL is almost back to his feet, almost falling over as he put weight on his leg. Shaking it out as he walks to the ropes, noticing Oka moving to his feet, he gathers speed and bounces of the ropes and runs towards Oka
TIM FLOSS:
There it is!
METAL throws his left foot forward violently for the Yakuza Kick.
HE MISSES!
With his leg still in the air METAL's other leg gets swept from under him as both legs fly into the air and a right arm across the neck drives him into that mat.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
STO!!!
Oka and METAL both lay motionless on the ground as Oka's arm remains over METAL's chest.

Sword of Lite Grand Prix – Semifinals:
Mascara del Muerte IV vs. David Troy
Mascara del Muerte IV vs. David Troy
After the crews had removed the fighters from the previous round, it was time to witness yet another glorious round in the Sword of Lite. Unlike the last round however, where men of similar styles would bash each others brains in. The second match was one of MMA versus Lucha Libre.
Not to disappoint, both men came out of the gate like men possessed. MDM even decided to bring the fire to Troy, the veteran of the MMA ring, and even though he would have an impressive showing, Troy's skill of strike quickly began to bleed through, and the addition of extra pounds started to slow MDM.
Eventually after a brutal exchange on the mat both men would get back up and while MDM's attempts to wear his opponent worked, the beating he received early in the match had already began to take its toll on his body.
Tory remains motionless on the mat as MDM runs to the ropes and uses the second set to spring into the air for a triumphant moonsault that causes both men to convulse a bit upon the ground, MDM slowly rising to a knee but trying to clutch at everything.
TIM FLOSS:
Our boy really made a mistake early on Al. Why a lucha wrestler would want to go blow for blow with a veteran of the Mixed Martial Arts circuit will never make sense to me.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Of course you don't Tim, you don't even know what it takes to be a man. MDM wants to show everyone that he belongs in this ring. A win over a former World Champion would help cement him in the upper card. So even at the risk of having his life shortened, he'll do anything to change the minds of those who think they know better than him.
Both men have now gotten to their feet and dart towards on another. Troy takes MDM down with a lariat but lacks the ability to capitalize as MDM quickly gets back to his feet and drives both his feet into Troy's chest with a dropkick that violently shoves him back into his turnbuckle. Troy comes darting out but is taken down with a head scissors then a pin.

2...
KICKOUT!
Troy almost pressed MDM off of him and both men jump right back onto their feet. Troy goes for another lariat but MDM slides between his legs and is back onto his feet. Troy doesn't even bother to turn around and just throws a star elbow behind him that clocks MDM dead in the face causing him to stumble back into the turnbuckle.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
THATS MY DAWG!
Troy make his way over and goes for a grapple. Instead he grabs the top ropes and starts diving his hip into the stomach of MDM. The weight advantage is slowly starting to show as MDM is almost being held up only because Troy's timing of strikes. MDM hangs off of the ropes as Troy steps back moving back in he attempts a elbow smash but is kicked in the midsection and then nailed with a European Uppercut that sends him straight into the mat. MDM quickly ascends the ropes and leaps up into the air...
FROG SPLASH!
It connects!
MDM rolls across the ring as Troy convulses in pain as he sways back and forth upon the mat. MDM struggles to make his way across the mat.
TIM FLOSS:
Muerte has beaten is body to a bloody pulp. Can he make it for the cover?
MDM slowly crawls across the mat, Troy lays clutching his abdomen until MDM makes his way over and swats the arms out of his way and makes the cover.

MDM moves ahead! The man of the Libre meets the man who holds the right knee off God!

Moments after the last match…
Just as the fans got up from their seats to exit, the BATTLETRON suddenly illuminated…
… with the smiling face of Chikashi Enatsu.
All stopped in their tracks as the ousted owner of the company gazed upon them. He congratulated Sen Oka and Mascara del Muerte IV on their advancement to the finals of the Sword of Lite Grand Prix. Regretfully, he said, that they would need to enjoy the tournament final as it would undoubtedly be their last. Enatsu declared that he had liquidated the financial assets from the company and that they company would only have another week’s worth of funds! The fans were in shock as the monitor faded to black.
We tried to catch up with GM Masaaki Sano after the show, but apparently he was in an emergency meeting to deal with this new crisis.
More news is sure to follow, folks!
