A lot of breaking news on this week’s news desk, folks. Let’s get to it.
The pro-wrestling world is still spinning from the whirlwind month of December which saw MJPW nearly descend into a financial maelstrom after Owner and Founder Chikashi Enatsu liquidated his assets from the company. A recent influx of assets from Pollobucket as well as the success of MAX-J’s 12/23 show and the co-promoted BLACK Lion’s Road BOM-BA-YE III New Year’s Eve Festival have seemingly brought the company back from the brink. However, sources inside the company reveal that a cloud of darkness still lingers over MAX-J and provides an explanation for the decision to embark on the TOUKON ROAD world tour.
Chikashi Enatsu and General Manager Masaaki “Genki” Sano often did not see eye-to-eye. An important point of tension was the territorial scope of operations. Enatsu wanted MJPW to remain primarily a national company, believing that overseas expansion was too risky of a financial endeavor and instead sought to recruit gaijin talent into Japan. Sano, on the other hand, felt that the national puroresu market was already too highly saturated with other companies, resulting in razor-thin profit margins and constantly living on the edge of insolvency. He repeatedly pushed to expand into global markets, brokering deals with WORLD PPV, striking a deal to keep the World Tag Team Championship, and sending talent into to compete in Lion’s Road Pro-Wrestling.
Rumor has it that MAX-J’s financial health is still precarious. Sano, who now bears the title of President and General Manager, apparently believes that the only way for MAX to survive is to branch into overseas markets. It’s a gamble, to be sure, as production and travel costs will undoubtedly increase, but he apparently thinks the benefits will outweigh the costs. Will TOUKON ROAD save the company?
The Zenki vs. Tokyo Zombie match from 12/31 continues to be analyzed by the pro-wrestling media. Having earned universal acclaim from sources, one in particular who rarely delivers praise came out in support of the match. The notoriously harsh Isaiah Van Pelt, has lauded the match with a four-star rating on his monthly report, The Index.
After his successful defense of the All-Japan Imperial Championship formerly of Shining Road Pro-Wrestling on 12/31, Mike Musket shocked the wrestling world by announcing that he was taking a step back from regular competition. However, fans will still be seeing quite a lot of the venerable and eccentric catch wrestling country bumpkin. We can now report with excitement that Musket has been signed by MAX-J as an Associate Head Trainer of MAX Dojo!
MAX-J still in financial peril… ?

Zenki vs. Zombie Fallout: Van Pelt gives the match 4 stars!
We should put the rating in context. Although five-stars is the highest rating a match can technically receive, Van Pelt believes that in the +100 years history of pro-wrestling, no two wrestlers have ever put on a five-star match. Harsh indeed, so major congratulations go out to Zenki and Tokyo Zombie for this achievement! The positive reception to the match has some believing that Zenki vs. Zombie II may occur sooner rather than later.
Mike Musket “Retired”? Well, sort of…
After his successful defense of the All-Japan Imperial Championship formerly of Shining Road Pro-Wrestling on 12/31, Mike Musket shocked the wrestling world by announcing that he was taking a step back from regular competition. However, fans will still be seeing quite a lot of the venerable and eccentric catch wrestling country bumpkin. We can now report with excitement that Musket has been signed by MAX-J as an Associate Head Trainer of MAX Dojo!
The Dojo students will be traveling and competing regularly on the TOUKON ROAD world tour and Musket has told reporters that he has spotted some jewels in the rough and declared himself “Chief Prospector” and is determined to “pan for some gold in that there dojo.”
MAX-J is still orchestrating the exact schedule and determining the fighters who will compete on TOUKON ROAD. Interested wrestlers are welcome to reach out to the company.
