We have three major announcements regarding the TOUKON ROAD super tour.
Only the highest level of mat technicians and fighters will compete for the belt. The rules are slightly different from the other championships:
- 30 minute time limit (vice 60 minutes).
- If the fighters reach the time limit, the match goes to a panel of three judges sitting ringside who score the fighters on their technical ability.
- There are no countouts. In the event a fighter falls out of the ring by accident, the match will be stopped and restarted upon reentry. In the event a fighter leaves the ring purposely, the fighter will be disqualified.
- The fight can also be fought under the company’s “sport form” rules which emphasize the shoot-style element of combat. In this case, the above rules are rendered null and the “sport form” rules are fully adopted in their place.
Thunder Mask is 35 years old, standing at 5’10” and 217lb. One of the most notable masked wrestlers, he has set the standard for the junior heavyweight division in Shining Road Pro-Wrestling and has won sub-heavyweight titles around the globe. Most recently, he competed in the 2018 Sword of Lite Grand Prix where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Always a threat, he uses a judo and karate background in combined with head-busting drivers and a few high-flying maneuvers. In short, he is the epitome of junior heavyweight wrestlers and an icon of the sport.
The Road begins!
The first series has been announced. At a press conference this morning, we learned that the first leg of the tour, referred to as the BLITZ PACIFICA, will feature four events in major metropolitan areas throughout East and Southeast Asia. All of the venues will reportedly be 5,000 seats or larger as the company expects quite a large turnout for MAX-J maiden voyage outside of Japan.
President and GM Masaaki Sano has confirmed that all three of the established championships will be defended, though the contenders have yet to be named.
The second major announcement was the inauguration of a new title in MAX-J!
Known as the Royal Road Championship, this belt is meant to showcase pro-wrestling at its purest. Sano, long a fan of in-ring technicians, said that he had long wanted to create a belt “where fighters compete on the foundation of professional wrestling”. Former owner Chikashi Enatsu, who preferred a bit more of the flash and glamour, had long fought him on this point until his ouster. Sano stated that he believes the Royal Road of MAX-J must begin by the company’s official foray into the globe and felt the time was right to commission the new belt, pictured below.
