The dark wizard Grim is meditating in his private chambers, preparing for the Royal Road Championship tournament and his first round match with Falcon Hamada when he heard the quite foot falls of someone approaching. The question of who would dare interrupt his solitude was soon answered once he caught her scent and a smile crossed his face. He was tempted to rise but hesitated. It would not be good if he seemed anxious at her arrival. No, let her come to him and wait.
The footsteps came to a stop outside his chamber and his visitor knocked upon his door.
“Enter,” he barked.
The door opened and Sentai, former priestess of Jorgumo and presently now his lover, entered and bowed her head.
“Forgive my intrusion, Omo,” she said, “but you have a visitor in your throne room.”
GRIM continence immediately changed and he quickly rose to his feet. Sentai jumped out of his way as he rushed past her and had to hurry to keep up with him as he headed off.
How dare someone intrude upon his domain at this time! With Jorogumo dead and her followers chased off, the temple had remained empty for months of all other than him and a selected few, and the dark wizard enjoyed it that way. After his failure to humiliate AJ Knight and the whispers of him being the weakest of the Demon Bridage, GRIM had retreated here to contemplate what to do next. Winning the Royal Road Title would certainly go a long way to prove himself to the group’s followers, but there was more to his self-imposed isolation. Namely, where to go next?
The dark wizard wouldn’t admit it out loud but without Jorogumo’s direction he felt lost. Yes the bitch deserved to die for the way she turned her back on him but her dark will had given him a clear path on which to direct his brand of chaos and destruction. He could sense the dark veil over Japan that he and his former followers had worked for so long to create was slipping away. Without someone to guide him back on the right path everything he had fought and bleed for would be for nought and that was troubling.
His thoughts returned to the issue at hand, the intruder in his throne room. He looked over at Sentai who was doing her best to keep up with him as he rushed along.
“I thought I stated that none were to enter our sanctuary,” he hissed as he went along.
“You made that quite clear, Omo,” Sentai whispered, “I instructed Goryō to turn intruders away, no matter what it required.”
“And?”
They came to the door to the throne room and GRIM struck it with such force that it flew off its hinges and landed halfway across the room. He charged in preparing for a fight but was suddenly taken aback by the sight of the water demon, Goryō, lying unconscious on the ground. Standing over him was a man in a mask. His features were hidden but he was clearly smiling beneath his hood.
“Greetings, Lord GRIM,” the masked man said with a slight bow, “Or should I say, Riku Saito-san?”
A sneer grew on GRIM’s face hearing the name he had long ago abandoned. It was from a time when he was weak, from a time he couldn’t stand against the storm.
“I know that voice,” he growled.
The masked man laughed. “You do, but I am not who you believe me to be. Not anymore.”
“What do you want?”
“The same thing you do, old friend,” the man said, “to put you back on the right path and prepare you for championship glory. Come, the Royal Road Title awaits!”
“What about Goryō,” GRIM asked.
The masked man looked down at him and shrugged.
“He should be fine in a few hours,” he said and began to laugh, “And to think I once was afraid of him. You really should get yourself a better guard do, Riku-san. I think I have the perfect replacement…”
Sentai stepped forward, looking confused. She looked back and for the between her lover and the masked man.
“Who are you? What do you want?”
The masked man took her hand and pressed it to his forehead.
“Where are my manners? Please forgive my impertinence. My name is Esior the Necromancer and I’m here to teach you, Riku-san.”
“Teach me what?”
“Why, to bring about the end of the world!”
