J1 SUMMIT 2017 FINAL (8/25/2017)
TOKYO, JAPAN
MIKE MUSKET vs. ゼンキ
The camera zooms in on the ring. Attendants check the ropes and wipe down the canvas. The referee stands in the center of the ring with his hands resting on the small of his back. MJPW owner Chikashi Enatsu stands next to him and cradles the MAX Heavyweight Championship in his arms. The title’s golden face glitters as we hear…
The screech of a hawk echoes and the guitars for "Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano get the crowd up on their feet. "Mighty Fine" Mike Musket steps out from the back with a piece of dried fish one hand and a walking stick in the other.
TIM FLOSS:
Well, folks, we have made it to the finals and the winner of the gaijin block has arrived! Mike Musket advanced after that controversial semifinals where Hammerstein and Edwards brawled before the match.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Yeah, Edwards was a trooper for wanting to continue but was all tuckered out. And let me tell ya, Timmy, you can’t give an inch on Mike Musket. He’s a veteran of the American Midwest’s catch wrestling scene. A strong SOB but with the agility of a tiger.
Musket walks down to the ring and stands on the apron. After he hands off his coon-skin cap and walking stick to ringside personnel he gets on the apron and rips at the fish with his mouth and chows down. After he throws the rest of the fish into the crowd Big Ole Country slaps his belly and lets out a big shout of laughter before entering the ring and turning to his opponent.
Hironobu Kageyama’s “VAJURA ON” hits the PA system and Zenki comes walking from the back in his full wrestling outfit with shoulder pads and cape. The fans are clapping ecstatically as he makes his way down the aisle.
TIM FLOSS:
Zenki has shown himself to be a stalwart in MAX-J. He ran through the native block with a perfect 4-0 record and quite easily put away KISUKE earlier this evening in the semifinals.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Listen up, Timmy. Zenki is the man. Technically, he’s listed as a junior heavyweight but that’s just cause he’s on the shorter side. The guy is as stacked as they come. I bet he can outlift any heavyweight on the roster!
TIM FLOSS:
Do you think Mike Musket would disagree there?
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Maybe if it was a tractor-pulling contest…
Demon Lord Zenki throws his arms out pumping up the fans before walking down to the ring as he slaps hands with the fans. He makes his way into the ring by walking up the steel stairs and walks to the turnbuckle, hopping onto the second wrap and again throwing his arms out to the thunder of the fans.
Chikashi Enatsu has taken centerstage as a microphone descends from the ceiling. He speaks in Japanese and the words are translated with a short time delay.
CHIKASHI ENATSU [via off-screen translator]:
Good evening, Tokyo, and fans watching across the world. We have reached the final round of the inaugural J1 SUMMIT. All of the competitors displayed tremendous fighting spirit, and the strongest two have made it to this point. One of the two warriors standing in this ring will win the tournament and become the first MAX Heavyweight Champion. Mike Musket… Lord Zenki… I wish you both the best of luck.
The audience applauds as the PA announcer, Naoki Toyama, begins the introductions.
NAOKI TOYAMA [via off-screen translator]:
From the gaijin block… standing at 6’1” and weighing 239 lb… he is the Man of the Mountain… “MIGHTY FINE” MIKE MUSKET!
There is sincere applause from the crowd as Musket cups his hands and howls to the rafters.
NAOKI TOYAMA [via off-screen translator]:
From the native block… standing 5’10” and weighing 214 lb… “DEMON LORD” ZENKI!
A rousing clapping of hands and a brief shout from the fans as Zenki takes a step forward with a raised fist and steps back.
The two fighters step forward as the referee explains them the rules. They are within a few inches from one another as the referee pats them down.
TIM FLOSS:
We are finally about to get started, folks. Who will reach the summit? Who will become the first champion of this fine company?
The referee is handed the MAX Heavyweight Championship, folds the straps behind the gold plate, and raises the belt high into the air before passing it off ringside and calls for the starting bell.
ALBERT MORDECAI:
I can’t wait to find out!
The two men encircle one another with caution. Both launch into a collar-and-elbow tie-up that sees the two men spin one another around and eventually Zenki backs Musket into the ropes… slowly he breaks the tie-up… and launches a chop into his chest! Chop! Chop! Chop… Musket absorbs them, snatches Zenki by the shoulders and slams his back into the turnbuckle! Rapid-fire chops from the mountain man! Chop-Chop-Chop-Chop-Chop! Musket snatches Zenki by the wrist and whips him across the ring to the other corner…
… Musket is running just behind Zenki…
… Zenki grabs both ropes, springboards in reverse, catches Muskets head between his ankles and flips the big man onto his back with a headscissors takedown! Musket scrambles up to his feet – and Zenki puts him back down with a running shotei! Musket climbs back up – another shotei! Musket climbs back up – another shotei! Musket climbs back up – but falls smack on his face! The fans deliver a round of applause.
TIM FLOSS:
Strong action in the early goings of this match!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
You can already see Zenki using his aerial abilities to his advantage. Expect to see more of that as this match continues!
The two men get back up to their feet. Musket goes for another lock-up, but Zenki ducks it and gets him in a rear-waist lock. Musket bends down and grabs Zenki’s foot and he falls onto his back. Musket has Zenki’s foot between his legs and… spinning toehold! Zenki growls in pain! Another spin! Zenki growls again! Another spin! Zenki growls – but sits up and grabs Musket and rolls him over with a small package cradle!

2-NO! Quick kickout from Musket.
Although Zenki gets up to his feet first, Musket shoots in and gets a single leg takedown! But Zenki gets his legs around the country hillbilly and has him in a full-guard. Musket is trying to get one of Zenki’s arms – but Zenki headbutts him! Groggily, Musket rolls off of him and onto his face!
TIM FLOSS:
A headbutt from Zenki… that’s not quite sporting…
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Demon Lord Zenki does what he can to survive!
Zenki stands over Musket’s back and grabs his ankles and locks them behind his knees… He sends a double-punch into Musket’s sides to free up the arms and snatches the wrists… He then leans back with a Romero Special! The Mountain Man is high in the air as the fans oooh and ahh!
TIM FLOSS:
What strength from Zenki! Normal men would not have the strength to hold up a man of that size!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Zenki is no normal man! He is a Demon Lord!
Musket howls in pain as Zenki has him lifted up…
The referee asks him if he wants to give…
Musket struggles…
… struggles…
… he shakes his head and gives a big “NO WAY, HOSS!”
Seeing that Musket doesn’t have quit in him, Zenki tosses him to the side and climbs on his back with a rear naked choke, but Musket gets the chin down and blocks the Demon Lord from getting it locked in tight. Eventually Zenki breaks the hold and holds Musket in a rear waist lock as he clambers up to his feet. Zenki attempts the German suplex, but Musket hits him with a rear elbow! Musket goes for another rear elbow – misses! Zenki kicks him in the gut… he locks in the front chancery… lifts him up for a…

Musket attempts to push Zenki off, but to no avail. He then attempts a rear-waist lock, but Zenki breaks the hold by elbowing Musket in the back of the head! And flips over with a Pele kick to the back of the mountain man who goes staggering across the ring! TIM FLOSS:
How’d that hillbilly move so fast?!
ALBERT MORDECAI:

Zenki is kicking his feet as he writhes in pain – but Musket won’t let go! The referee kneels down in front of a groaning Zenki! Musket lifts his hips to further hyperextend the elbow!

ALBERT MORDECAI:

Zenki is up to his feet, he holds his arm… Musket comes over – Zenki kicks him in the gut! Enzuigiri! Zenki is cradling his elbow as he gets up, and hits another enzuigiri!
