Chris Ravenna was on the chair with his battle scars on his face consists of swelling on the forehead and a left eye along with small stitches on the head. It came from his mixed martial art debut where it didn’t go well. However, he served it as a reminder of how serious the upcoming matches would be.
Ravenna held two things: the family heirloom on his left side and the championship belt on his right shoulder. He pondered over some preparations for the MAX-Japan’s EUROPA RUSH tour where Ravenna set his sight on a new set of his opponents.
On March 9th, he will team up with a man who Ravenna called him as a “BIG FUCKIN’ AMERICAN”, Hammerstein and clash against the Demon Brigade (GRIM and Zenki). On March 12th, he will join up with Shinjiro Nakama to go against the team of AJ Knight and a contender of his title, “Burning Heart” James Edwards. March 15th will be the judgment day for Ravenna. He will defend his MAX-Japan Junior Heavyweight Championship against the contender himself. On March 17th, he will square off against Shigeru Toyama in his first ever “Sports Form Rules” match. On March 20th, he will fend off against the Demon Brigade (this time with Tokyo Zombie), together with Alexander Irvine and the newest signee, Sam Bass.
These announced matches may not be official (except for the Jr. Championship Match), but Ravenna found it interesting. Not that he’s going to team up with the American Monster. But he’s going to cross paths with someone who knew before, Tokyo Zombie. He and Zombie were on the now-defunct promotion back in 2016. He didn’t have a chance to fight one-on-one, but three-on-three was close enough for him. As to all opponents, he will prove to them why he defeated the Junior Heavyweight Champion, Eron Hunter in his fifth defense and ended his half-year reign.
Ravenna knew that his celebrating days as a champion were about to end. He must act now to show everyone that he is worthy as a champion, a rising star not only in North America but also in Asia, and Europe. Ravenna doesn’t have time to become overconfident with his new opponents, especially the mighty competitor, James Edwards. Ravenna was aware that Edwards is going to destroy everyone including him. So Ravenna’s going to do what his ancestors did for almost 400 years fighting of his motherland’s independence.
For that, he closed his eyes and recalled what Inang Bayan said to him.
He envisioned a grand landscape like when he was back home in Laguna. He found himself on the higher point of a mountain. He was a nobody nor relevant nor anyone special for he was just a farmer boy. In a first person’s perspective, he witnessed the great wonders of Mother Nature. Mountain ranges stretched across the horizon. Small huts and villages scattered like ants and sweet northwest wind provided a gentle breeze for the young fighter. Trees, meadow, birds and any other, painted the complete view of the beautiful scene, Mount Makiling.
Suddenly his imagination stirred up. He saw two local children playing around with his championship belt. They were pure and innocent, as they laugh without worries. However, a fierce looking lion roamed slowly towards the little ones. But the kids replaced fear with joy as they enjoyed with their new playmate.
In the end, the two children slept with the championship on their grasp, as the lion laid around them trying to protect them from anyone willing to harm them.
Chris finally realized the point on being the champion. He wasn’t claiming it for glory, but to show that Filipinos are as strong as any other Westerner, and he’s going to prove it by defending his title against James Edwards. He’s going to demonstrate it just like what he did to the former champion. His momentum as a rising star won’t stop.
His aim for the tour is clear: defend the Junior Heavyweight Championship, win the TOUKON Cup or both. He will do this not only for himself and for his motherland or to redeem what he didn’t achieve in the past. But also for the lowly ones like those two little children.
Ravenna opened his eyes and glanced at the uniform for his match against the Man in Black.
A uniform of the Guardia Negra, the Black Guard.
