TOUKON ROAD SIDE STORY: MOLECULE Vol. 2
3/31/2019
Budapest, Hungary
The main event saw “Mountain” Shinjiro Nakama attempt his V3 defense of the MAX Royal Road Championship against the Demon Brigade’s very own and nefarious GRIM. The “King of the Dead” began the match with his usual trickery and became one of the few who has confounded the normally aggressive Nakama in the early going, keep the match on the ground to avoid the champion’s size.
But when Nakama turned the tables and secured a position in the mount he rained down hammerfists until the referee pulled him off and gave him a warning for using closed-fist attacks. With the fight back on its feet, Nakama repeatedly got GRIM in the clinch and embarrassed his chest with knees, reddening the skin which would bruise as the match went on.
But counting out GRIM is not easy. He eventually caught a big boot, spun Nakama around, and latched onto his back with a rear naked choke, taking the big man to the ground once again. All hope seemed lost until somehow the Mountain got a foot on the ropes. With the fighters separated, GRIM back off and laid in wait, hoping to jump onto his Nakama’s back with his patented spider-like pounce-to-sleeper hold maneuver, but Nakama preempted him with a running knee strike and covered for the 1-2-3! The fans applauded Nakama’s effort, especially the Mountain BROs who flexed in their sunglasses #shinjiroswole t-shirts as the big man held the title once again as high as the eye could see.
The three singles matches were all quite interesting. In a stunning upset, Chris Ravenna surmounted Go Gensai in what was a physical match dominated throughout by the vicious Pale General. But when Gensai attempted the saka otoshi, Ravenna landed on his feet, broke the hold, and secured the backslide pin for a quick victory!
Unlike the match above, Alexander Irvine and Tokyo Zombie could not seem to decide on a victor as this match went the distance. Loads of striking early and lots of time spent outside the ring with Irvine taunting Demon Brigade zealots as he punished Zombie’s head against the ringpost. But Zombie’s seemingly infinite stamina and stoicism allowed him to stay in the game and he nearly put Irvine away with the Rising Zombie Moon, but the Unnatural lived up to his namesake and somehow kicked out. The match ended at the thirty-minute mark, much as it began, with the two fighters on their feet, and fans clamoring for more time.
Finally, “Dojo Star Eruption” Naoki Ojima managed to seal the deal against David Troy, who still seems to be not quite healthy despite nevertheless competing whenever cleared by the doctors. Ojima struggled early on his Troy’s barrage of kicks kept him defensive in the corner, but as the match wore on and Troy’s breathing labored, Ojima used the moment to answer with his own strikes and at one point hit a German suplex hold for a 2.9 count. It was an inside cradle that did the job, as Ojima preempted a running face kick with a knee to the gut before applying the classic flash pin and picking up the win.
In tag news, KOSUKE delighted the crowd picking up a win with Edwards when he used a fisherman’s suplex to finish off Sakamoto, while Earth Warrior’s senton bomb sunk Yamazaki to give AJ and him a win. Additionally, Demon Lord ZENKI continues his dominance in the tag division as he furthers Falcon Hamada’s win-loss record as a Demon Brigade disciple.
After the show, GM Masaaki Sano thanked the Budapest crowd as well as the rest of Europe for allowing them to spread the world’s greatest pro-wrestling around the world on the TOUKON ROAD.
Next stop… Dubai, UAE, where the two-day CHAMPIONS’ GULF is sure to promise core-shattering excitement. The top brass said to expect an announcement in the oncoming days regarding the schedule for cards for the two-day event.
