"We've got a shit load of corny sayings in American sports, one of em' goes 'It's a whole new ball game' when the momentum shifts from one team to the other. The way things are going in MAX-J and that company that calls itself Lion's Road ain't just a whole new ball game, it's a whole new world, man."
The fans watching at home agree with James Edwards, but not because of the unlikely coupling of Maximum Japan and Lion's Road. For the first time, they see the World's Jr. Heavyweight Champion as they've never seen him before, loading wet socks into the dryer at his Toronto condo.
"I never thought I'd see the day two companies that hate each other would end up under the same flag, but here we are. I guess going broke makes you forget bad feelings real damn quick. I never thought I'd see the day the Hammer reigned across those same two companies. Hard work pays off, though. Hell, most of y'all thought you'd never see me content or successful in MAX-J, I never thought it would happen, but sometimes hell freezes over, and you have to appreciate the irony of it."
The Burning Heart reaches down into the adjacent washing machine for more socks. He overestimates how many he can handle and drops some on the floor, chuckling at this mistake.
"I always drop a few on the floor."
He scoops up the socks on the floor and tosses them through into the dryer with a flick of his wrist.
"I'm at the point in my career where I'm starting to realize that a few dropped socks shouldn't ruin your day or stay in a promotion. I let a few losses sour me on the Max-J experience. The same way I let a few cross words ruin my friendship with the Hammer. I can't take that shit back or make up for lost time; the same way I couldn't let my past in this promotion define my future. The way I see it if I can win a MAX-J belt and then finally get ahead of the Demon Brigade, maybe a Burning Hammers revival ain't so crazy."
James bumps the dryer door with his hip, closing it shut.
"I don't have some noble reason why I tried to save the Hammer that last time out. It was a gut reaction. I saw something about to happen I didn't like, and I decided to make sure it didn't."
"It got me to thinkin', and since fresh starts are in the air on two continents, why don't we see what happens, Jacob? We were a great team back in the day and even better friends. Yeah, we were rough around the edges and not anywhere close to realizing our potential, but I think we made good. I think we're a helluva lot better now. We're both multi-time world champions and the aces of our respective divisions. We're both meaner and tougher than we were back then. I think we could bring the noise, I honestly do."
"I figure all ain't forgiven, but we've got two tag fights to see if the old chemistry is there. If we win those, maybe we talk about getting the band back together and winning those tag team titles we never captured. It might be a long shot, but we're in an age of surprises, so any damn thing is possible, eh?"
James flashes a smirk at the camera and then turns to set the knobs on the dryer as the scene fades to black.
