Kono Masaki stormed through the front door of Kellar’s apartment, kicking the front door shut as he did. With a howl of frustration he drove his fist into a nearby wall, denting it slightly. His kit bag fell to his feet.
He withdrew his fist ran it down the back of his neck, wincing from the pain. That German Suplex had put him right on his neck and shoulders, and tried though he might he just couldn’t break the hold.
And he had come so close…. so close to landing that killer blow.
But close didn’t matter – his dream return to the ring as a solo act had been shattered.
It was yet more insult added to injury. Much as it killed him to admit it, Hiro had saved him in the last tag match. Without Hiro’s quick thinking Kono would still have been pressing the ass-grooves out of his chest from that absolute hulk of a man Balloon Yamakazi.
He checked his watch – it was still early in the day back in America. He knew that Hiro and Kellar were preparing for Hiro’s solo debut in the United States. No doubt that slime Mickey Greer was there as well, just waiting for another chance to humiliate him.
As the moonlight shone through the window, he slowly made his way to the bedroom. As the light shone across him, he checked over his fist and noticed a bruise was starting to form. Great. Another knock, just what he needed.
He turned away from his room and headed for the kitchen. As he did, he noticed the light flashing on the answering machine and pressed the button.
Kellar: *Beep* Kono, it’s me. Look, I know you well enough to know that everything I’m about to say is going to go in one ear and out the other, but if you could just try and listen to me then you might learn something.
Kono rolled his eyes and made his way over to the freezer. Kellar was speaking Japanese, that meant he was in full on sensei mode, and frankly Kono had no patience for a lecture right now.
Kellar: I saw what happened, and I’m sorry I’m not there to do a full debrief. You’re going to have to wait until Hiro and I get back from Chaos. We’re going to be a little later than planned… I need to visit a friend in the hospital before we go.
Kono pulled a pre-prepared ice pack from the fridge and placed it on the back of his hand. He winced as the cold ran through his fingers, but the pain did start to slowly dissipate.
Kellar: I wanted you to go up against Nakama because frankly I think you needed a little humility.
Kono paused. What was that?
Kellar: Nakama is on a tear right now. He’s hungry for victory and he’s winning left right and centre. That’s what you need, you need hunger, not anger. Whatever happened in the past, you’re going to have to let it go. I wasn’t lying when I said that you were one of the most promising competitors anywhere in our sport, but there is a rapidly closing window before you stop being promising and become spent.
Kono snarled under his breath. He looked around the kitchen.
Kellar: And right now you’re looking for the nearest object to throw at the phone, thus proving my point. I don’t need you to be angry about what happened Kono, I need you to be hungry to put it right.
Kono took a deep breath.
Kellar: Get some rest, we’ll see you in a few days. Whatever happened tonight, we are going to end this tour on a high. You’ve heard the rumours about the tag team titles… lets spread a few more shall we?
The phone beeped, leaving the apartment in silence. Kono threw the ice pack into the sink and made his way back to the front door. He stormed through it, grabbing his kit as he went, and made his way down the corridor. When he reached the next “front door” he tapped the fob twice on the digital lock and entered the code. There was the loud “thunk” of the secure lock detaching and he pushed the door open.
As he entered, the room filled with a brilliant light. He dropped his bag and looked out across Kellar’s training gym. Kono moved his head from side to side, pushing the pain of the german suplex out of them.

Kono: I’ll show you “hungry.”
