AJ sits on a throne next to Billy Danielson, finally opening his mouth to add something to his partner’s promo.
“Why, AJ, why? For the last month and a half I have been hearing that non-stop. Why? Why would you start taking shortcuts? Why would you be so ruthless to win the Seattle Pro Title? Why would you team with Billy Danielson? Why would you turn your back on the fans? Why throw away everything you stood for?”
AJ chuckles bitterly.
“The sad fact is, I didn’t turn my back on shit! I never did what I did for the fans. If I did, do you think I would have won the world title last year? Especially in the way I did it! No. The reason I did everything I did, everything I am doing I did and continue to do, I do because for the sake of this business, and of this sport. I have given my heart, my soul, my blood, my sweat, my tears for my whole career to Lion’s Road, to Seattle Pro. How did my loyalty, time and dedication get paid back? They chewed me up and spit me out!”
AJ adjusts his Seattle Pro world title belt on his shoulder, before continuing.
“Last year, when the WALL rose to power, I was the only one who stood up for Lion’s Road from the start while the rest of the roster couldn’t be bothered to do shit about it! Matt Pulver, the boy scout supreme couldn’t put his ego aside to stand with me. David Troy, the recent poster boy, got handed his title back, on circumstances just like how I lost my title shot. When I ask for the same consideration though? What happens? They laugh in my face! I stay as a good soldier, and they let me know ‘Just win this tag match, and the shot is yours!’ And then the shot goes to Hammerstein, who’d been terrorizing Lion’s Road for almost 2 years! And what does the loyal company man get for his troubles? An IOU!”
“And the same thing happened in Seattle Pro. I busted my ass for a year to get my title shot! And then that grotesque cancer of this sport Alexander Irvine gets 2 without doing jackshit! That’s when I realized what I needed to do. I couldn’t just stand in line. I couldn’t just try to be the model employee, because if you do that they forget all about you. They go for the guys who make a mockery of them. Those who behave like a disgrace, who lie and cheat, and steal their way to the gold that is so richly deserved by the men who give everything to the sport. I learned the only way that you get what you deserve, is to make it impossible for people to ignore you.”
AJ leans back and gestures towards Billy Danielson.
“See, I realized that the two of us had more in common than we maybe wanted to admit. We are the truth that nobody wants to admit. You need us. Our enormous mouths bring in the crowds, the words we say the things we do are what gets people talking! We’re like a healthy dose of medicine. It’s the best thing for you, but you hate it the whole time it’s going down.”
AJ laughs with a bit of a sinister undertone.
“Pollo, Miuchi, I’m going to make this perfectly clear. I’m here for justice. I’m here for my backpay from Lion’s Road, the title shot I was promised, and just like in Seattle Pro…”
AJ holds his belt up…
“...I’m going to collect it with interest, and that all starts tomorrow night when Billy Danielson and AJ Knight tear through the ranks of Max J take the tag belts, and give them a sense of legitimacy!”
AJ stands up from his throne.
“The Gaijin GOATS are here, and I’ll tell you right off the bat: I am not allowing you to use me and abuse me like Lions Road, or Seattle Pro. This time, Billy and I are calling the shots. But don’t worry, this is a good thing. The two of us are everything you need to elevate this company to the next level, give us a platform, let us do what we do and stay out of our way, and Max J will go to heights never before imagined! Because as my partner always says: Things are about to get…
Great.”
