“This is a new era for Maximum Japan.”
We open on Billy Danielson staring at a promotional poster for his Gaijin GOATs vs The Demon Brigade match. All he can think about is how everything he’s done in the Polloverse for the past year has led to this moment. The constant upsets he caused, the anti-climatic ending he’s been apart of, and the run around he’s had to go through to get here. He can’t help but laugh at himself, looking at the picture for his first title shot in Maximum Japan.
If you had told him last year, that this was where he was going to be, he would have laughed in your face. Him and the notorious boy scout, AJ Knight, taking on some japanese edgelords, it’s as outlandish as one could think up. However, anyone that knows this business knows that anything can happen in it. So here we are, two of the greatest wrestlers of this era, about to take on one of the greatest factions in the history of Max Japan, it’s…
“AJ, I don’t know how you do this inner monologue stuff. Sitting here, letting people interpret what you’re thinking. It’s too weird for me.”
Billy shakes the deep thought out of his head as he looks at the camera with a smirk.
“But I guess that’s why we work so well together, huh?“
He looks over to AJ Knight, but he’s still trying to make sure Jeremy Squire has no permanent brain damage after hitting him with his new move. Billy shakes his head and laughs.
“I think that’s another thing we have on those Demon Brigade guys. They don’t know how to adapt. GRIM always needs that little someone keeping him afloat, but that’s not adaptability, that’s having expendable sidekicks. GRIM acts like he is the mainstay of Maximum Japan, but that’s not what a mainstay is. AJ in Lion’s Road, mainstay. Me in Seattle Pro, mainstay. GRIM and lackey number 865 are not mainstays. They’re what’s left of a broken stable that should’ve went down a long time ago.”
Billy knows what that feeling was like though. For almost 8 months, he tried to keep the Dogs of War from being a broken stable, but inevitably, he had to let them go.
“GRIM, it’s time for you to let go of demon brigade. It’s time for you to stop acting like you are the end all be all of Maximum Japan. Sure you beat me in 1v1 action, but where did that get you? I still beat Naoki and… that other guy… faster than you beat me and whats his face. You failed just as much as I did, and it’s almost hilarious that you can sit there and still act like somehow you and Falcon Hamada are the most dominant force in this company. Especially because you know it isn’t true.”
The sound of AJ yelling at Squire for stumbling into a doorway. Billy makes a face of sympathy pain as he watches Jeremy do it again. Squire finally makes it through the door, and Billy is able to get back on topic.
“I know what it’s like to carry a team past it’s expiration date and not want it to die. I know what it’s like to milk something for what it’s worth until it’s so dried up that it spontaneously combusts in front of you. I know what it’s like to refuse to go down in your blaze of glory, but tomorrow night, you don’t get the choice to run away anymore.
The Demon Brigade may have lasted longer than anyone had expected, but tomorrow night, we finally put you edgelords to bed once and for all...”
He pauses for a moment, looking at the promotional poster in their personal dojo.
“Because AJ and I are the new era in Maximum Japan, and nothing is going to stop us from getting what we want.”
Danielson continues looking at the poster, with almost an existential look on his face. Maybe he is realizing that beating GRIM is a metaphor for himself. Maybe he’s stuck on the parallels that his opponent has to him a few months ago, he starts to get deeper, but then…
Something startles him.
“So wanted to do the inner monologue thing now, right?”
AJ puts his hand on Billy’s shoulder, looking way too hyped to stare into space. Billy just looks at him with a smirk and then shakes his head
“Nah, I’m good.”
