REAL NAME -
James Elijah Edwards
STAGE NAME -
James Edwards
NICKNAME(S) -
The Burning Heart
HEIGHT & WEIGHT -
5'9 and 204 Pounds
DATE OF BIRTH -
February 21, 1995
PLACE OF BIRTH -
Lexington, Kentucky
FIGHTS OUT OF -
Lexington, Kentucky
YEAR OF DEBUT -
2016
ALIGNMENT -
6
PERSONALITY - Having been on his own for most of his personal and professional life, James is incredibly introverted. Interviews and social interaction with the rest of the locker room are difficult for him. He often comes across as incredibly rude and sometimes uncaring, which is far from the truth. The moral implications that he hurts people for a living set heavily on his chest every day. The fact that he ended a career is a pain he has yet to get over. However, James knows that his fists and feet are his best way to make a decent living. He values the structure and purpose that Lion's Road gives to violence, and will readily defend the honor and ideals of the promotion he considers home.
EQUIPMENT -
Long black tights with royal blue trim and black boots.
CASUAL ATTIRE -
Growing up in a low-income rural area ensured James isn't going to be a snappy dresser. He prefers loose fitting Wranglers, t-shirts, zip-up hoodies, and his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates cap.
WALKOUT ATTIRE -
James wears an old, hooded leather jacket to the ring. A large American Bald Eagle feather in a sewn on plastic pouch is prominently displayed on the left breast; it is a gift from an old friend as a reminder to be an honorable champion.
WALKOUT THEME -
"My Name is Human" by Highly Suspect
ALLIES - Matt Pulver (Tag team partner and reluctant confidant).
RIVALS - AJ Knight (The pesky thorn in James' side who views the Burning Heart as a generational rival. James would rather AJ leave him alone, even though the Millenial Knight is starting to grow on the grouchy Kentuckian)
Alexander Irvine (A man who James' fears he could become if he ventures down the wrong road, Edwards detests Irvine's proud savagery as much as the Unnatural does his "softness").
BRIEF HISTORY - Ask James about his past and he will answer, "Ain't much to talk about." He'd rather people known about his international tours, two world title reigns, and quest to become the pound-for-pound best fighter on the Lion's Road.
PREVIOUS INJURIES -
Right Knee (2018): In January 2018 James sustained a knee injury during a Heritage Cup clash with rival AJ Knight. While the exact nature of the injury is unknown, James is rumored to have been on crutches during a tour of Japan but moved spryly on it during his latest Lion's Road appearances.
STRENGTHS -
Tenacity: James' ability to swarm his opponent is starting to climb up the mountain to legendary status. He won't yield on an attack until it finishes the fight or his foe cold cocks him. His tsunami style results in quick victories and copious amounts of damage to whoever he is facing. Rival Owen Gonsalves once remarked that Edwards' has the best finishing gear in professional wrestling.
Peace of Mind: James has famously demonstrated an ability to detach himself from negative emotions in between the ropes. He is hard to rattle and stays cool in the clutch.
Efficiency: James is the kind of fighter that knows his limits well. He sticks to what he does best to avoid stupid mistakes and as a result of that, there few gaping holes in his game plans.
WEAKNESSES -
Tenacity: James' determination makes him stubborn as an ox. He would rather fight hurt than forfeit a match and won't tap out until the last possible minute, even at the risk of injury, if he thinks another wrestler is beneath him.
Loner: James' natural suspicion of others makes him possibly the worst tag partner to have on the roster if you don't get along with him or don't show him any respect. He will argue with those on his side of a match, try to outdo them in certain spots, and attack them if things escalate beyond reason. However, he is aware of this and usually can be professional depending on the circumstances.
The Gospel: The PK is James' sharpest sword--and every in professional wrestling knows it. When he backs into a corner or hits the ropes his opponents know what is coming if they are in a state to have a coherent thought. As a result, the move is easily countered, especially early in the contest.
SPORTSMANSHIP -
James willingly shakes hands and follow the rules. He'll give an opponent a wide berth if they are seriously injured and will offer them a rematch. When things get heated, though, rules and respect be damned in his opinion, because when the blood wrath flows, survival is more important than civility.
FIGHTING STYLE -
An unrefined, self-taught kickboxer and BJJ practitioner, James is the kind of fighter who likes to come in waves with strikes and uses submissions defensively or when his opponent has an obviously injured limb; there is no beauty to his holds, they are meant to maim. Suplexes and high impact moves are reactionary most of the time, he will use them sparingly, especially against heavier opponents (280 plus pounds) to conserve energy. High-flying moves are purely used in desperation and take a great deal of time to set up.
SIGNATURE MOVES -
Violent Gospel: A running PK Kick to the head of a seated opponent. It is the most infamous kick in wrestling and ended a career. It is James' best weapon and the sheer impact of it on the human skull ensures that kicking out of the Gospel is as rare as an Edwards' smile.
Myth's End: A two-sided move. Either a triangle choke or a Pentagram choke, essentially a reverse triangle, James strong legs, and grip make this submission lights out for even the best mat technicians, though he hasn't quite mastered it.
Foxfire: A fisherman brainbuster. The hooked leg gives James' more leverage to plant his opponent's head on the canvass.
Concrete Chameleon: A spinning flying knee. James will often play opossum prior to using this move.
Front Guillotine Choke: A new, nameless addition to James' arsenal. When grounded, the choke is tighter than a noose and difficult to break. A snap DDT or a Foxfire sometimes serve as a prelude to the hold. If an opponent won't quit squirming, James will pepper them with knee strikes before clamping the choke back on.
Release Reverse Exploder Suplex: Another new move. Its aim is to stun an opponent long enough for James to have time to properly execute the Gospel.
FAVOURITE MOVES -
Strikes: In spite of his progression as a well-rounded wrestler career, James best friend on offense is his striking game. Well versed in a patient and methodical method, Edwards will make each hit count whether the opponent is standing, kneeling or lying prone on the canvas. He does not discriminate in which part of the body to use. Slaps, kicks, chops, knees, jabs, elbows, and headbutts are all in play.
