J1 SUMMIT DAY 2
8/5/2018
MIRAI DOME, YOKOHAMA, JAPAN
The buzz has continued all week as the fans in Yokohama for the SUMMIT have made the city their own. SHIMADA! Juice has become the #1 selling energy drink, children roam the streets hugging their plush Zenki dolls, and Mike Musket has apparently become the face of AROOOO! Kobe Beef Jerky. Inside the Mirai Dome, the excited fans get testy. The Demon Brigade zealots in their all-black garb dominate, but the Nakama-supporting “Mountain bros” strut around the concourse in their dark sunglasses and tanktops, attracting a lot of attention. Additionally, there is a contingent of about 50 fans who flew in from Seattle wearing Ichiro Suzuki baseball jerseys from the player’s days with the Mariners, clearly in support of Robb Daniels.
METAL HERO and Shensi Dashi were set to team up against Daichi Kusumoto and Robb Daniels. However, HERO said he wanted to test out Shensi Dashi’s strength on the other side! So, HERO teamed up with Kusumoto against Shensi Dashi and Daniels. However, it was Kusumoto who wound up stealing the show when he hit a vertical-drop brainbuster on Dashi to end the match! Kusumoto was pleased to pick up his first pinfall victory in MAX-J. METAL HERO stated that he would also like to face him soon in the future…
Day 2 of the J1 got underway with James Edwards versus Tokyo Zombie in what might be described as an ultimate technical match. Zombie took Edwards to the ground in the early going with an arm-drag takedown and forced the Burning Heart to fight off a Fujiwara armbar for several minutes before he got to the ropes. But Zombie dragged him away and transitioned to a triangle chokehold. When Edwards eventually broke through and got into the mount, he transitioned into a forearm choke, but Zombie fought for the ropes to the applause of the crowd!
Back on their feet, Edwards locked up Zombie in the clinch and attempted to knee him in the chest but the Buddhist monk kept them tight together and landed repeated headbutts! But Edwards countered with a double underhook belly-to-belly suplex. With Zombie groggy and sitting up on his knee, Edwards got a running start and went for the Violent Gospel! But somehow, someway, Zombie ducked it, kipped up to his feet and hit a shining axe kick – the Rising Zombie Moon! He went for the pin and got the 1-2-3!
Musket versus Shimada got off to an odd start. You may remember the J1 SUMMIT EVE where a young female fan of Shimada had to be escorted out of the building. Well, she returned and as Shimada walked down the aisle she jumped the barricade and made a run for him. Fortunately, security personnel apprehended her, dragging her away as she professed her love for him. Once the match got started, there was scant love to be found as Musket wrenched Shimada’s arm and then blistered him with repeated chops to the chest! But a bruised chest did not damage Shimada’s heart, and the Dog of War fought back and sent a dropkick into Musket’s chest that sent him tumbling onto the apron. Shimada got a running start and with a dropkick he knocked Musket off the apron and onto the outside!
Shimada followed him and scoop-slammed the mountain man onto the outside and leveled numerous stomps. He got Musket back up to his feet and locked him in a front chancery, going for a suplex, but Musket blocked it and nailed a brainbuster! He rolled Shimada into the ring for a 1… 2…. NO! Musket would attempt a backdrop driver, but Shimada backflipped onto his feet and landed a DDT and then went to the top rope! He landed his patented corkscrew moonsault, the Fall of God! 1… 2… NO! Somehow Musket got the shoulder up. Shimada would set up Musket for a lariat, but the cagey Mountain Man would duck and nail a burning lariat! Shimada would fold like a cheap suit as Musket covered him for the 1-2-3 to remain undefeated in the tournament!
In the third match, when Lord ZENKI paraded down the aisle to the ring the fans tossed cherry blossoms in his wake. Hammerstein, however, was not treated so kindly. As he walked to the ring, fans threw green air freshener trees, obviously in response to ZENKI’s comment at J1 SUMMIT EVE that Hammerstein smelled bad. During the match ZENKI made light of this comment as well. Hammerstein attempted to collar-and-elbow tie-up several times and ZENKI would duck and pinch his masked nose to the laughter of the crowd. This would lead Hammerstein to hit Zenki with a smack to the face that spun around the champ and then he decked him with a POUNCE!
The action then got heated with Hammerstein turning up the heat with a series of chops and then nailing a powerslam but only getting a 2-count. Hammerstein sent Zenki running into the corner and hit a Stinger splash that sent Zenki wobbling out into the center of the ring! Hammerstein would rush in with a lariat but Zenki would dodge and hit an enzuigiri that put Hammer on ice! He’d go for a pin but only get a two count! Zenki’s offense would consist of palm strikes and he would even nail a fisherman’s buster! Let’s pick up from right there.
Zenki is seen arguing with the referee while Hammerstein lays splayed out and flat on the ground after absorbing the fisherman’s buster from Lord Zenki.
TIM FLOSS:
Zenki is not happy with the referee, is he?
ALBERT MORDECAI:
No, he is not. I don’t think Zenki believes that Hammerstein even has the ability to get his shoulders up in time.
TIM FLOSS:
Why’s that, Al?
Zenki is still arguing with the ref and he exhales deeply to stick out his gut and waddles for a moment before pointing down at the Hammerstein who struggling toward the ropes to make it up to his feet.
TIM FLOSS:
Is he insinuating that Jacob Hammerstein is overweight? Cause the man might be thick, but he’s a professional athlete, by God!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
I’m pretty sure Zenki thinks that all Americans are obese manatees…
Hammer is using the ropes to get himself back up to his feet and Zenki comes over and lays some kicks into his back that echo throughout the arena. But Hammer absorbs them and keeps on trucking and gets to his feet. Zenki goes for a palm strike – but Hammer blocks it with a forearm and throws a wild haymaker that catches Zenki on the chin! Zenki stumbles around as Hammerstein jumps off the ropes and leaps into a DIAMOND CUTTER!! He hooks the leg for the pin!
1…
2…
3-NO!! Zenki gets the shoulder up.
TIM FLOSS:
Excellent reversal by Jacob Hammerstein! You might have to call that the Hammerstunner, Al!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
What a move! I thought he had him!
Zenki is on all fours as Hammerstein is up on his feet and going buck wild! The fans are stomping on their feet and the Demon Brigade zealots are speechless as they watch Hammerstein snatch the Demon Lord up by his mane. He’s got him in the front chancery… he’s got him up for the Hammersteiner… he – WAIT! Zenki flips out of it and is on his feet. He runs at Hammerstein with a shotei – but Hammer ducks and Zenki eats turnbuckle! Hammerstein turns Zenki around and punches him in the gut a few times as he lounges painfully in the corner. Hammer backs up and goes for another turnbuckle splash – Zenki gets a foot up to the face!
TIM FLOSS:
Can’t keep the Demon Lord down!
Zenki grabs the top rope and jumps on the top turnbuckle as Hammer stumbles around in the ring. What’s he doing… Zenki runs along the ropes and – DIVING ZANBATOOOOOOOOH!!!!! Hammer goes down hard and Zenki crawls over to the hook the leg!
1…
2…
3!!!!!
The bell sounds!
Zenki sits up in the ring and raises his hands as the fans cheer and the Demon Brigade zealots breathe a huge sigh of relief. As the referee checks on Hammerstein, the Demon Lord is handed back his MAX Heavyweight Champion and mounts the turnbuckle and raises his fist to the Demon Brigade corner ringside! The fans reciprocate and shout ZEN-KI! ZEN-KI! ZEN-KI! as the cameras fade.
TIM FLOSS:

In the final match of the night, it would be a match where the Demon Brigade’s GRIM would face off against Shinjiro Nakama and his own fan section known as the Mountain Bros. This was an aggressive match on both sides with thick, heavy strikes on both sides. Nakama’s knees versus versus GRIM’s roundhouse kicks! Nakama’s aggressiveness worked against him when GRIM began to methodically attack Nakama’s hamstrings, but the Mountain’s strong legs merely seemed to absorb it and he would catch GRIM in a sleeper hold. The King of the Dead looked gassed, but he somehow managed use a judo shoulder throw to the delight of the fans!
Nakama got up woozy and GRIM started up his strikes. One of GRIM’s kicks sustained a cut over Nakama’s eye that forced the referee to stop the match to clear up the cut. The referee consulted with medical personnel and fortunately they were able to clean up the cut and allow the match to continue! When it was restarted Nakama burst forth with a flurry of open-hand strikes and knees in the clinch that backed up GRIM into a corner! Let’s tune in…
We see Nakama in the black trunks and GRIM in the black-and-blue singlet with half-tights. Nakama has sat GRIM up on the tope rope and is climbing up…
TIM FLOSS:
That’s a lot of beef climbing up that turnbuckle, Al!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
Beef – it’s what for dinner!
Nakama wraps his arms around Nakama’s waist and – AVALANCHE-STYLE BELLY-TO-BELLY SUPLEX!!! GRIM goes flying so far across the ring that his foot nearly hits the opposite ropes. Nakama pulls him in the center of the ring and covers!
1…
2…
3-NO!!! GRIM with a kickout!
TIM FLOSS:
My gawd! My gawd!
Nakama lifts up GRIM and puts him in a rear waistlock. He arches his back with near perfect geometry for the high-angle German suplex hold!! He’s got the bridge!!
1…
2…
3-NO!! GRIM kicks out.
Nakama jumps up and stands over GRIM’s back. He gets him in a rear waistlock again and puts him back on his feet and – a SECOND HIGH-ANGLE GERMAN SUPLEX HOLD!! Another pin bridge!
1…
2…
3!!!!!!
WAIT!!! GRIM slips out at the last second as the ref waives off the fan count.
TIM FLOSS:
Are you kidding me?! He’s a boss! He’s a hoss!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
F***!!!!!!!
Nakama repeats his last maneuver, getting GRIM up to his feet and keeping him in the rear waistlock. GRIM uses his free elbows to send elbows into the face and he reopens the cut over Nakama’s eye! Blood is going everywhere as GRIM unleashes with a flurry of elbows until Nakama breaks the rear waist lock – but he catches GRIM in a full nelson! The bloody Nakama takes a breath and – HIGH-ANGLE DRAGON SUPLEX HOLD!!! The bridge is perfect!!

3!!!!!!!
The bell sounds!
Doctors rush in the ring to deal with the bloodied face of Nakama and throw icepacks onto the neck of GRIM.
TIM FLOSS:
The ring is literally covered in blood and sweat tonight! Al, this J1 SUMMIT has been just full of epic moments are we are only on Day 2!
ALBERT MORDECAI:
You’re telling me! It doesn’t get any better than this!
The show closes out on the sunglasses and tanktop wearing Mountain Bro fans flexing and posing in front of the camera, raising a finger in the air and screaming the chant of SHIN-JI-RO! ICH-I-BAN!

There are three more days left remaining the opening round of the 2018 J1 SUMMIT. General Manager Masaaki Sano said that he is pleased with the level of competition thus far in the tournament, particularly how the fans have responded by showing their colors in support of their favorite wrestlers. Well, except for the mysterious young woman who seems madly in love with Mitsuo Shimada. She has gone too far and security is taking steps to ensure that she will not be permitted entry into the Mirai Dome for the duration of the tour.
