BENTLEY'S BEAT!
Thoughts, Musings, and Commentary
from Solomon Bentley
Esteemed fans of MAX-J, we are under 24 hours away from Day 4 of the J1 SUMMIT. The race to semifinals is in full swing.
The Block A triumvirate of Mike Musket, ZENKI, and Jacob Hammerstein are all knotted up in the top spot, but only two of the three superstars will make it out of the block. All three have been spotted training in various spots around Yokohama. Musket was spotted on the outskirts of the city chopping firewood for the winter. MAX Heavyweight Champion ZENKI was spotted at Kanagawa University’s track and field with his Demon Brigade coterie working on his grappling techniques and doing speed drills, while Hammerstein was seen in a local gym bench-pressing inordinate amounts of weight.
In Block B, Tokyo Zombie’s impressive showing has seen him going 2-0 in the tournament thus far and defeating the other leader in the block, “Mountain” Shinjiro Nakama, to earn a tie-breaker. Zombie already has a tie-breaker on James Edwards, who has 2 points and is still in contention. If he defeats GRIM tomorrow night, he will secure a spot in semifinals. But don’t expect GRIM to go down without a fight, as he still has an outside shot to make the semifinals as well.
In another news, MAX-J announces that Jack Tillman will be participating on 8/30 and 8/31. A world renowned junior heavyweight superstar, some speculate that Tillman is the mystery opponent against whom METAL HERO will defend the MAX Jr. Heavyweight Championship on 8/31, but this rumor has not been confirmed. MJPW General Manager Masaaki Sano stated earlier this morning after the signing that the contender has not yet been selected, so I wouldn't suggest reading too much into the signing. We'll be on the lookout for new information.
Finally, we can also report that several students of MAXIMUM Dojo have finally been cleared for competition. After months of grueling work, they will debut in MJPW on the 8/30 and 8/31 double-show feature. Despite some inexperience and that they are still a work in progress, the schoolhouse’s instructor, Toshimitsu Kato sensei, warned the regular roster not to take them lightly.
