BIOGRAPHY – David Gage (born March 13, 1993) is an American professional wrestler currently scheduled to participate in Maximum Japan Pro Wrestling. After a brief stint on the American independent wrestling scene, Gage was signed by a major wrestling company as a developmental talent. Soon, Gage's style of wrestling and his signature use of his right knee gained international notoriety. Gage began to regularly appear on the developmental brand's televised show and quickly rose to the top by earning several championships. In the summer of 2016, Gage debuted on the main roster and climbed the ranks to become one of America's greatest wrestling talents.
But, Neil Young said it best when he sang, "it's better to burn out than to fade away."
Although the company's management looked the other way in regards to Gage's drug abuse, things came to a full stop when he appeared intoxicated and high at the coveted New Year's Eve pay-per-view. His obvious impairment led the match referee to disqualify Gage and vacate the World Championship. News of his release became widespread on the day after the pay-per-view. The owner of the company threatened Gage with a lawsuit naming several causes of action such as negligence and breach of contract. However, the case was settled out-of-court. As a condition of the settlement, Gage was ordered to pay a fine to the company, accept his release, and to attend a rehabilitation clinic in Northern Arizona for four months.
David Gage's last match and the events leading to his recovery are the subjects of the documentary, 'Hard to Gage'.
MJPW will be Gage's first voyage into Japan and his return to the sport of professional wrestling.
